Powertech's Food Waste Composter: A Green Solution for Copar

OVERVIEW

Powertech Energy backs the Australian Government’s Net Zero Plan by 2050. The F-25 Foodie, a food composter, is a fully sustainable alternative to Chester Hill RSL that reduces carbon emissions.

The food waste composter is part of COPAR’s composting goal and integrates with their fibre based packaging to offer sustainable waste solutions. This is one of the commercial food waste disposal options for businesses looking to reduce their environmental impact and improve their ESG.

The Challenge

Powertech and COPAR are working towards the 2050 ‘Net Zero Plan’, an environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiative for a healthier and more sustainable future. But the challenge is that many businesses lack the expertise or resources to adopt sustainable options like composter machines.

Fathima Sameer, Marketing Specialist at COPAR, says the first step to change within businesses is to change people’s longstanding waste management habits.

“We want to offer alternative waste solutions that can be adopted easily; that’s why we’re pushing composting to the top. It’s not easy, but from a user’s perspective, we want to make it simple, easy to learn, and adaptable. There are so many more opportunities to be found, especially in hospitality venues, clubs, and even councils—places that dump their food in landfills,” Sameer says.

The Solution - Recycling & Education

To get more businesses on board with the Net Zero Plan, education and recycling are key. Through a recent partnership with councils, Powertech and COPAR are launching community education initiatives to get people to be more aware of their wasteful habits. Working with local councils gets them to implement long-term sustainable policies. Along with the practical solution of the food composter machine, education is ongoing.

"24/7 operation, you can now fit 25 kg of food waste, including biodegradable packaging, in the unit. Hugh Perrottet, Operations Manager at COPAR, says there are many uses for the compost. Perfect integration of COPAR’s biodegradable packaging means foodies can handle it without any negative impact.

The Outcome

Hugh Perrottet has seen excellent results from the Foodie in the short time it’s been in use at Chester Hill RSL Club in NSW.

“What we’ve learned is that our products, which are fibre based compost in under 24 hours, and the bio-plastic bags compost in 48 hours,” says Perrottet. “And it’s not only fast composting but also produces nutrient-rich compost.” This compost can be used for fertiliser and mulching and closes the commercial food waste loop.

The Foodie machine and COPAR’s fibre based products together are driving positive biomass change. Food waste is being reduced and turned into beneficial compost by the Foodie machine. These technologies are giving businesses options they never thought possible and new paths to get involved with the Net Zero Plan.

Perrottet said, " Seeing people realize the positive possibilities available to them is always a great feeling."
